The Siemens Industry Automation Division has equipped its modular, sector-independent Simatic WinCC/B.Data energy management system with new functions. The new Simatic WinCC/B.Data V5.2 SP1 version features a data connection wizard which facilitates easy and efficient linking of energy measuring points and WinCCarchive tags to B.Data. The wizard also supports the user in acquiring data from various sources such as WinCC, OPC or FTP. Installation is significantly faster and easier. Less experienced users are supported by default parameters, a standardized setup process, tooltips, simple configuration even for multi-user systems, as well as improved documentation. More experienced users benefit from the greater degree of freedom offered for selecting settings by the expert set-up mode. The new WinCC/B.Data version 5.2 SP1 not only supports WinCC V7.0 SP2 but also the supervisory control and data acquisition Scada system Simatic WinCC RT Professional V11 SP1, which is used to connect the energy management system to the runtime system of the TIA Portal engineering framework.
With the Simatic WinCC/B.Data energy management system, which now also supports Microsoft Excel 2010 and Windows 7, manufacturing companies can optimize their energy costs and transparency at management level, from purchasing to planning and controlling. In 1852, Jacob Mayer started the present Mayer Bros. Cider Mill, located in West Seneca, New York. It was a custom squeezing mill for local growers, and after many years of thriving business, it was passed on to Jacob’s son, John. In 1938, John passed it on to his three sons — Earl, Elmer, and Allen. Today it is run by the fourth generation, Allen’s son, John.
John Mayer’s vision was to create a year-round operation with a wider range of products and an increased production capacity. This dream came to fruition when he engineered a technologically advanced juice pressing and bottling line. This succeeded in introducing their quality product line to area chain stores and other bottlers throughout the Northeast.
In 1986, meetings and negotiations with Gerber led to the purchase of Gerber’s Cornucopia Farms, the Lake Road processing plant and cold storage facility in Somerset, NY. Over time, engineering changes were made and juice products rolled off the line, but there was a need for a product that could be produced year-round to ensure work for the off-season. That is when months of negotiation in 1988 landed a major contract for about 650,000 cases of 16oz. bottles.
Today, the fruits of these generations of labor are easily found. A visit to the West Seneca mill provides everything from apple and juice products to jellies, jams, syrup, cheeses, and other country delights.
A variety of apples and other fruits are pressed into 100% all natural juices, available year-round at local supermarkets. Beside the Mayer Bros. label, other brands are produced, through custom labeling and co-pack bottling.
Cold storage for local farmers, bottling for name brand baby juices, and pressing for bulk shipment are among the many commercial services that add quality to a cornucopia of other products, for now and for generations to come.

Nestled in the foothills of the Green Mountains of Vermont with a trout stream behind the nursery, Mill Brook Bonsai is devoted to the art of Bonsai. Founded in 1997 after many years as a hobby, the nursery has grown to include native trees, tropical trees and imported trees as well as tools, pots and accessories.
Come and visit, feed the attack-trained Koi in our small pond and enjoy the quiet and serenity that is associated with this ancient Chinese and Japanese art form.
Mill Brook Bonsai was founded in 1997 after Sandy & Trudy Anderson had spent a number of years as amateur bonsaiists. The first greenhouse went up in ‘97, the second one, for tropical trees a few years later and then, as the collection grew, a third greenhouse was added. Much of our initial knowledge came from such folk as Gil Klein, a bonsaiist who moved to VT from the NY area. Later, Eric Schalk of Waterbury, VT added his knowledge to our early store of information and then, over the past years, David Easterbrook, Curator of the Bonsai Exhibit at the Montreal Botanical Gardens has graced us with his talents.
Over the years we have been fortunate enough to have guest speakers here such as Suthin Sukolsovisit, Harry Thomlinson, Chase Rosade, Mary Miller, Mike Sullivan, Colin Lewis and a host of others that have added to our own knowledge as well as the members of Green Mountain Bonsai Society who have hosted many of these events.
We have a large number of trees ranging in price from $45 to $2,000. There is a tree for every budget and for every environment. Here is a photograph of recently arrived Chinese Elms in the foreground; Taiwan Figs appear to the front left of the picture.
